If you've ever dabbled in coding — especially for Dubsado, you might have experienced the pain of always having to look for your colour HEX codes or font names, constantly rooting through branding guides and files. ⁠

With the S&G Code Generators, there's an in-built Notepad for you to jot everything down, so that it's just there when you need to grab your branding elements.⁠

Failure. Not a comfortable word in our working world. ⁠
⁠
In a society which teaches us that maximum effort = maximum results, and something we've worked really hard on fails, it can feel like the world is collapsing around us. ⁠
⁠
All that hard work, completely wasted. ⁠
⁠
But what if even in failure, there is something to be gained? ⁠
⁠
You might have learnt that your audience doesn't respond to a certain language or image, that your audience needs a little more hand holding than you initially thought, that you need to learn more about a certain programme to get the most out of it. ⁠
⁠
Or maybe that it never really served your vision or purpose! ⁠
⁠
The key lesson here is that knowledge and experience is in itself a valuable asset. Sure, some folks go through life without failure (though I’m yet to meet someone personally!). ⁠
⁠
But the overwhelming majority of success stories? They have a bunch of ‘failed’ businesses, client relationships that didn’t work out, and yes, time and money wasted. ⁠
⁠
But the most important thing is getting back on the horse and learning from it.⁠
⁠
Ever since my very first client, I have kept a file of all the things I have learnt from them — What worked, what didn’t. What really got clients talking and what fell flat. ⁠
⁠
It means I can move forward without making the same mistake twice, and gives me something to reflect on to see how far I’ve really come - and also gives me a good laugh and twice as many cringes!⁠

Whatever question we feed our subconscious, it’s always going to try and figure it out for us. ⁠
⁠
It’s helpful like that — but if we don’t ask it the right questions, it might take us through a spiral of overthinking, with answers we never really needed. ⁠
⁠
So we need to ask better questions to ourselves.⁠
⁠
Questions like “am I cut out for this?”, “why am I not good enough?” and “why am I such a failure?” will give our friendly brain ammo to support them. ⁠
⁠
There’s not much option in these questions for why we ARE good enough, or ARE a success. ⁠
⁠
We’ll just find reasons why we suck: and we don’t suck! ⁠
⁠
What to do instead? Ask the RIGHT questions to help your grey matter help you. ⁠
⁠
Focus on solutions and outcomes in your questioning — not barriers. ⁠
⁠
Instead of “am I cut out for this?” ask yourself, “what do I need to learn to reach my vision/goals?”. ⁠
⁠
Instead of “am I good leader?” ask yourself, “how can I become a better leader?”. ⁠
⁠
It’s okay to not know the answer straight away. Go about your day, and your subconscious will work it out for you. There’s a reason people say “just sleep on it”.⁠

Just give it time - and give it the right questions.

Imagine you’re a client (stick with us here!). You’re looking for a graphic designer for your new website redesign.⁠
⁠
You’ve just spent twenty minutes scrolling through a gorgeous designer’s site, and decide — yep, they’re the one for you.⁠
⁠
You send an enquiry on their contact page, and they reply with a proposal. ⁠
⁠
Aaaaaand oh. The proposal… well… something feels off.⁠
⁠
Okay, the info’s there but it almost feels like work to decipher what I’m actually going to get and are they the one, you think.⁠
⁠
I’ll leave the proposal for a few days—I’ll come back to it later. ⁠
⁠
So many talented creatives are SO passionate about their work, but when it comes to the hard-sell “crunch” time it feels like walking in mud — it’s pushed to the back of the to-dos.⁠

Proposals can be leveraged to truly sell you + your skills — they can make the process of booking ideal clients feel EFFORTLESS. ⁠
⁠

Have you ever heard of a guy called Vygotsky? (And no, this isn’t one of those ‘a guy walks into a bar’ jokes).⁠

Vygotsky theorised (over 100 years ago) that all of us have three ‘zones’ to our capabilities. ⁠
⁠
The “what I can do” zone, “what I can’t do” zone, and the in-between — the “zone of proximal development”, or the “I can do with help” (ZPD for short). ⁠
⁠
Why am I telling you this? Because I feel that a lot of us forget about this cosy in-between zone. ⁠
⁠
We’re limited to confidence in our “can do’s”, and fear over our “can’t do’s” — and this gets in the way of our success. ⁠
⁠
You’ve got the beautiful website + branding. You are PASSIONATE + masterful of your craft. These are all honed down in your “can-do’s”.⁠
⁠
But for most, sending proposals or quotes is a solid “can’t do”. And that’s where our templates come in. ⁠
⁠

WOAH! What a month…⁠
⁠
Do you struggle to balance your energy with being a perfectionist? Thinking you can do allll the things, but end up knotting yourself into a ball of burnout and shutting down?⁠
⁠
For the past few months, we’ve been gearing up to move our home. I tried to plan a “smooth” move — spacing out projects + to-dos — but kept getting unexpected delays.⁠
⁠
So of course when our time to go ahead came, everything clashed at once. I was slammed with client work, in the middle of a website redesign, helping local businesses prepare for lockdown easing, joined a new 12-month program — and now had to keep it together to move our life.⁠
⁠
Add into the mix: the pressure to grow a business + keep on top of social media.⁠
⁠
Panic + overwhelm set in hard. ⁠
⁠
But something I recently learnt really helped to pull me out: that overwhelm is a CHOICE. ⁠
⁠
We choose to be overwhelmed. And we can choose NOT to be overwhelmed.⁠
⁠
By choosing to be NOT overwhelmed, we can detach from the emotional state of stress — into better alignment to tackle what we NEED to do.⁠
⁠
So next time you feel overwhelmed, remember you can choose to NOT be. What’s the most important thing to get done? And what can you let go of? ⁠
⁠
For me, I chose to focus my energy on moving + client work — and let go of social media.⁠
⁠
I even let go of my perfectionist tendencies with the new website. Yes there were bugs, and things weren’t absolutely PERFECT (are they ever?)… but it was DONE.⁠
⁠
By choosing not to be overwhelmed by the to-dos, I could launch the website + freebies, making sure that people who need my help could be helped NOW — not when “I was ready”.⁠
⁠

Loom allows you to record and share video messages of your screen, camera, or both — It's way faster than typing an email or meeting live. It's also free to use!⁠

4/ Shift⁠
If you're a tab-hoarder then this ones for you — Shift is the desktop app for streamlining your accounts, apps, and workflows. It's is a logical & beautiful solution for managing everything better.⁠

5/ Forest⁠
This iPhone app is a cute alternative to help you stay focused visually. When you're ready to start the timer, you "plant" a tree, and it will either grow or wither depending on whether you pick up your phone.⁠

Use a sticky navigation bar to guide your clients through the effortless experience of what it's like to work with you—particularly for your long proposals. Also a must-have for those super long questionnaires... break it down for your clients, make it EASY for them to fill out — you'll get much better responses. ⁠

When I left my office job as a complaint handler, we took Reggie (our 4-month old kitten at the time) in an ex-delivery van-turned-camper around Europe for 3 months.⁠

At first, we took him out on a harness + lead (yep we were THOSE people) but that all changed when we parked up at a gorgeous lake in South Germany and met a family who'd been travelling around the world for 19 years with their elderly cat.⁠
